This page is in memory of two special members of our animal family
that have passed on before us and whose time with us was way too
short.
First there was Acer (Acer Rubrum) our first
puppy. He was the best. There will never be another Acer and we were very
blessed to have known him. He was our teacher.
His health challenges taught
me about the good that can be found in feeding a raw diet to our dogs. He
also taught us about vaccines and that more is not always better.
Acer
left us in May of 2003, at 8 years of age, from bone cancer.
Elmer Fudd came along at a time when
we were helping our local rescue litter box train some kittens. We were
Fudd's foster home and in the end we became his home. He also had many health
challenges but his was due to defects he was born with. He was a barn kitten
- one of over 100 that were rescued from a local farm. The barn was a storage
place for fertilizer and other chemicals. Many of the cats and kittens were
sick. Fudd came to us and he had problems urinating and he had glaucoma. Fudd
was very special to us. His immune system was not strong and he left us in
December of 2001.
It is because of Acer that we have limited vaccinations in
our animals and we feed raw food to our dogs. The cats get a combination of
foods - the three of them have their own ideas about
food.
